Let us be grateful...

Let us be grateful to the mirror for revealing to us our appearance only.

  1. Nice picture. Oh, that mirror quote is good. It's the kind that reminds you to make who you are as nice as if you could see inside.

  2. She is beautiful! And the quote is so true! Wait, perhaps it would be better for us to see more than just our appearance. If we are ugly on the inside, imagine how hard we would all try to be nice to others so that we can be attractive on the outside! (I don't even know if that made sense!)

  3. Aarti,
Really enjoyed viewing your blog and I love your watercolors very much not to mention your portraits. You are a very talented young artist and the verses that you include with each piece are also inspiring.
    Thanks for sharing,Dave

  5. HI, Aarti,
Oh, what a wonderful thought! So many women in the world look in the mirror
to find what is "wrong" with themselves and
are never happy with seeing the beauty that is there!
Did you know that mirrors go back very far in history?
I am doing some research on very old designs the Irish and other ancient
Celtic peoples used in their art. I'm look at the designs from both an
artistic side and a mathematical side. To my great surprise, quite of few
of the beautiful designs were put to decorate the back of hand-held
mirrors. They have been found a grave goods in ancient graves of both males
    and females!
    We are blessed!
Your new paintings are lovely! Always enjoy reading your blog!

  6. Hi Elsie...yes..most of the people are impressed with the outer looks rather than finding whats inside someone's heart...a lot of people also get the things done their way or in their favor by flattery talks..or artificial smiles...probably thats what people like to hear..rosy talks..and praises about themselves...and in reality..it turns out to be something else...

Nice to get some information about mirrors,Elsie...strange that graves also had mirrors..!!! In India, some clothing also have mirrors..as in they are lehengas..or chaniya cholis...usually worn by Gujuratis which
has embroidery work and it is filled with mirror work...small pieces of mirrors are tailored into the lehengas...these clothes are worn during Navratris - 9 night festival for the 9 Goddesses...where the women and men dance Dandiyas..and Garbas...the traditional dance done by Lord Krishna...the light reflects in to the mirrors giving a very good appearance to the entire attire.

  8. I just realized how your comment on my last post really tied back to this quote. Thanks, that was very interesting! I hadn't thought of that when I started my self-portraits...though, before I started I did rush out to get my hair cut! There is so much to consider in this quote. Thanks.

  9. Hey Raena...seriously....you are a close observer...but yes..we are conscious about ourselves..all the time...have we ever wondered why we always post the best of our pics/sketches as profile pics...since we all have something special about us that we want everyone to see..isnt it??

  10. Beautiful eyes. You have a wonderful way of giving light to your portraits - in their eyes, from their skin, it makes them so beautiful and real! This woman looks great, and very interesting. I want to know what she's thinking ^^!
